 Please enjoy these Arizona stories

Note: Rusty enjoyed his  4 years at ASU so much that every Spring he would return for a week in the sunshine (his reward for enduring an Illinois winter).  Eventually, he moved to Tucson to enjoy the Arizona climate year round (yes, even the hot summers).

2 Interestingly, Phoenix/Valley summers were not as hot as they are now.  In the 1980's seldom did the temperatures get over 100 degrees.  Also, the word "monsoon" didn't start being used until about the 1990's.

3   Frank Lloyd Wright began wintering in Scottsdale in the 1930's.  At about the same time, Grady Gammage, Arizona State College (future ASU) president moved to Tempe.  They became good friends with Frank Lloyd Wright offering a building to commemorate Gammage's 30 year battle to gain university status.

4  Grady Gammage's 10 year old son remembers Frank Lloyd Wright playing with him as a child. Did Wright's  love of cars pass on to young Gammage?

6   Prior to becoming the Valley Art Theatre on Mill Ave. in Tempe, it showed X-rated movies. When the owner left to start an X rated movie house in Tucson, the new owner upgraded the selection of movies.  Today's Harkin's Theatre has a connection to this Valley Arts Theatre.

7   Which is older?  U of Arizona or ASU (Arizona State College)

8   Students at both ASU & UA look forward to the November football game.  However, there was a year when the game was not on the schedule.

9   Personal story:  An ASU future baseball Hall of Famer put me on the path to my "Plan B".

10   Ever since attending ASU, the Sugar Bowl in Scottsdale has been my go to ice cream place. I gain weight just thinking about all their wonderfully delicious sundaes..

Please enjoy these chocolate and ice cream stories.

13   Tucson being one of the oldest U.S. cities has another distinction.  The modern European founder was an Irishman.

Additionally, T.O.A.S.T. has many stories about Tucson you will enjoy.
