Favorite Football Stories

In early 1900, college football was in trouble:

too many injuries, too many deaths.  Pres. Roosevelt took action calling college presidents to the White House.

Few practical jokes end up on the national news.  This joke at Creighton University (Omaha) certainly deserved national attention.

Teased by Phoenix high school students at a football game yelling "Criminals, Criminals",  the Yuma students taking classes in a prison eventually embraced their new name.

Carlisle Industrial School and the U.S Army Cadets at West Point was billed as the game of the century - sons of the Native Americans  warriors vs the sons of the U.S. soliders

West Coast football fans don't talk about the raminfications of the first ever Rose Bowl game in Pasadena.

University of Arizona and Arizona State College (future ASU) rivalry began with the Territorial Bowl in 1899.  With the rivalry still intense, one school engaged in some player stealing.
